UNERASABLE

UNERASABLE is an imaginary album created to push my design skills to fit the theme of the popular punk/rock band, Blink-182. I experimented with physical materials to craft a wordmark that highlights the album’s meaning. Throughout this process, I developed a much stronger experience in both experimental typography and packaging design.

UNERASABLE? Why that title?

While brainstorming ideas for what to call this album, I thought a lot about what Blink-182 is known for and the impact their music has had over the years. As a long-term Blink-182 fan myself, I wanted to find a title that carries a meaning that resonates with fans who have grown up with the band since day one.

As of Blink-182’s latest album released in 2023 titled, "One More Time...", the band, consisting of three members: Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker are celebrating the near end of their music journey, reflecting on the friendships they’ve built and the memories they’ve made together. This project is meant to showcase the band’s “newest album,” which I envisioned as a follow-up or "comeback" to "One More Time...". It only felt right to choose a word that emphasizes Blink-182’s permanent mark left on the world. "UNERASABLE" is a bold and straightforward word that simply means “not able to be forgotten”.

The album's title reflects the idea that no matter how much time passes, Blink-182's influence and legacy can’t be erased.

"Blink-182 is a punk/rock band that began their career in the 1990s, starting out as a small garage band. They're well known for their grungy, rough, raspy, and unserious music style, as well as the close bond they share as both musicians and friends. For this project, I want to reflect that fun, rebellious teenage punk spirit by incorporating rough, scratchy textures to emphasize their grunge aesthetic. I also want to highlight Blink-182’s high energy and playful side by using bright, vibrant colors to capture that excitement while still balancing it with an edgy, serious tone."

CONCEPT #1

CONCEPT #2

Untitled_Artwork 2 copy.JPG

Concept #1 imagines the album title carved into pavement, exposing a hidden layer of fluorescent pink beneath the surface. This bright color represents Blink-182’s strong, high-energy and serves as a symbol of their lasting impact. It’s a visual reminder that their presence in music and culture is permanent, loud, and impossible to ignore. Even as time passes and things get covered up, the band's impact and spirit still shine through; Making it impossible to erase.

Concept #2 includes most of the same elements as Concept #1, but swaps the engraved pavement for a bright pink spray-painted version of the album title. It still features three pairs of shoes surrounded by graffiti, emphasizing the band’s skater-punk roots. The use of spray paint reinforces the idea of permanence. Just like their impact, they can’t be erased.
